Back To The City Festival 2018 is Back at at Mary Fitzgerald Square Newtown, Johannesburg


The annual urban youth culture festival, Back To The City International Festival which is hailed as “the biggest Hip Hop gathering in Africa” will be taking place this Friday the 27 April 2018 at Mary Fitzgerald Square Newtown, Johannesburg from 10am till 2am. For their 12th year running the festival will feature 60 artists, 30 DJs, graffiti artists, breakdancers, bmx, skaters, 10 live bands, freestyle football, stalls all representing the pinnacle of artistic expression from South Africa and a surprise international act. Through the years the festival has grown to be the largest public display of both commercial and underground hip-hop in Johannesburg, presenting a day of live music, street art, break-dancing, art installation, skateboarding, film, street fashion, gaming, speakers and panel discussions. From the daytime events to the nightly performances, this is one of the times that the inner city comes alive with freedom of expression providing a destination for hip-hop fans, artists and industry related individuals to converge and celebrate the experience of hip-hop and youth culture.

 

The Mariha AW18 Collection by Thabo Makhetha

The women’s wear label, Thabo Makhetha established in 2009 best known for their ready to wear range of capes inspired and made from traditional Basotho blankets, known as Kobo Ea Bohali. Introduces a collection called The Mariha for their AW18 offering which encompasses dresses, skirt, and jerseys to accompany the new interpretation of their classic Kobo Cape. The designer states that they have kept the color palette “simple and classic yet contemporary by adding blues, reds and yellow” and further explains that “The Mariha collection is practical for work for that incredible event that you have coming up in winter.”
