Artscape Theatre Centre’s IN(S)KIN inspired by Writer and director: Mbongeni Mtshali’s memories of being taught English as one of only three black children at a private all-boys’ boarding school in the late 1980s. The piece is physical, fast-paced and can leave you mentally lagging behind. The delivery of the performers is exquisite.
It is a picturesque physical body of work peppered with tasteful sexual pseudo.
The theatre piece “In(s)kin performed by Jared Musiker, Julia Wilson, Kai Brummer, Ntombi Makhutshi, Ryan Mayne and Thembekile Komane is a choreopoetic ensemble work that draws on personal histories, found prose, poetry, and visual and auditory archival material to explore how the process of “coming into language” shapes and situates us within specific cultural and political worlds.”
In(s)kin overarching beautiful as it is, it is one of those that makes you leave the theatre ready to strike up a conversation with anyone walking out the theatre or someone who has seen the play before. So you can hear their own interpretation of the piece. It is a picturesque physical body of work peppered with tasteful sexual pseudo.
