Last year I attended the third edition of Makhelwane Festival 2017 hosted by the founders of LoCrate Market a monthly market that takes places on the first Sunday of every month at Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers in Soweto. The three-day festival event was hosted along Poka Street in Soweto, Johannesburg, from 15 to 17 December 2017. With an option to camp for a weekend at Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers.
There was good food, music, fashion, style, amazing neighbourhood energy and camaraderie. A highlight was seeing my faves BCUC performing in their neighbourhood and of course, the boys from Johnny Cradle holding it down too – always a treat.
