Yes, you should allow yourself to wander the narrow passages of the city until you get furiously lost. Yes, you will eventually snap at the numerous of the people trying to sell you a spice route, boat excursion trip to another island or lagoon for snorkelling or tortoise-watching. Yes, you will slightly feel bad for snapping because you understand that they only doing their job and trying to make a buck as the island relies heavily on the tourism economy. Yes, the food is absolutely incredible with all the fish, spice and vegetable markets in abundance. Yes, the people are just lovely. Lastly, yes you will kick yourself for not knowing Swahili. With all that I spent my time in Zanzibar thinking, it will be challenging but I could live here given the opportunity.
