Langa Mavuso and Zoe Modiga kick-started the Red Bull Music Festival 2018 held at 73 Juta, Braamfontein with a lunar performance. Red Bull Music Festival Johannesburg is a global celebration of 20 years of the Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA). The Academy is a world-travelling series of music workshops and festivals. The festival has been held in various cities including Los Angeles, New York City and Paris and espouses the values of the RBMA: to create, collaborate and celebrate the South African music scene.
Langa Mavuso and Zoe Modiga showcase was a titled KHUMBULA: A TRIBUTE – an honorary one-hour nostalgic performance paying homage to some of iconic South African musicians who came before them. Mavuso and Modiga performed their personal selections of South African popular hit songs that influenced their own music. Midst their duet set the duo act branched out into single acts whereby Zoë Modiga performed ‘Nganekwane’ followed by Langa Mavuso performing his hit single ‘Sunday Blues”. Watch the conversation I had with the on-and-offstage friends post their show and some of their performances from the night HERE
Langa Mavuso and Zoe Modiga performance were preceded by DJ Leeu chilled electronic beats and the night was finished off by the maestro DJ Kenzehero who picked up from the high note Zoe and Langa left off until two in the morning.
