Daily Digest: Fashion Revolution South Africa Discussion & Therapy Presents Euphoria

If you are free on the 24th April 2018 between 6 pm and 8.30pm and you are in Cape Town (address: Design Department, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Keizersgracht Street, Cape Town ) Fashion Revolution South Africa will be hosting an evening of networking and spirited discussions about the future of clothing. You are all invited. Admittance is free, however, you must email info@twyg.co.za to book a seat. In return for the wealth of information from the panel of speakers who will discuss different aspects of making fashion responsible and sustainable. You are asked to bring with pre-loved good quality item of clothing to donate to Chic Mamas, an organization selling second-hand clothes to raise money for education and community projects.

The Fashion Revolution is an international campaign advocating for a fashion industry that values people, the environment, creativity and profit in equal measure. Last year two million people engaged with Fashion Revolution. Over 113 000 people asked brands #whomademyclothes.  On the anniversary of the Rana Plaza disaster five years – when a clothing factory collapsed, killing 1,138 people and injuring many more – we will discuss solutions and interrogate alternative ways of producing fashion.

The speakers and topics is curated by Jackie May from the new sustainable lifestyle platform Twyg, include: Micah Chisholm who will speak on Future of textiles is a lecturer at CPUT in surface design and has deeply researched future textilesEmma Jones-Phillipson has an MSc Public Policy and Administration from LSE and is currently the Head of Operations at Greenpop. Will speak on Why we must love second-hand clothes. Anna Cowen is a social change practitioner, architect and urbanist. She has a BArch and completed an MPhil in Sustainable Settlement. She will speak on the circular economy and how the fashion industry can adopt it. Finally Representative from various colleges will present a project or concept that best illustrates how their respective college is teaching and thinking about the sustainability and future of fashion.

Therapy Is Bring Euphoria to South Africa

The longstanding LGBTQIA party brand Therapy Clubbing are bringing the international clubbing sensation EUPHORIA – as part of the Mile High World Tour taking place in 2018.  The EUPHORIA parties are scheduled to continue the legacy of this famous party brand and bring top international DJ’s to our shores, including Dublin’s Matt Bogard and Dave Mladi as well as Therapy’s very own founding father, house legend, Stuart Hillary. If you are in Johannesburg the Euphoria x Therapy party will be hosted at Carfax Newtown, 39 Gwi Gwi Mrwebi Street, Newtown, Saturday 28 April from 9PM – 4AM. Whereas in Cape Town the event will be at Pink Panther Night Club, 120 Strand Street on Thursday 26 April from 9PM – 4AM. You can get the tickets online or at the door.

Remember Therapy is a LGBTI event and maintains an open-minded party policy, which shows respect for all partygoers, no matter gender, sexual orientation, race or culture. Therapy has a “no cameras and phones” policy; phone  usage is allowed, but not on the dance floor – “phones off, party on!”
